The Long Tail

The Long Tail article got me thinking. It's amazing to think about how the internet can just open you up to everything. To think that what's mainstream might actually not be. It's all just made out to be. I admit sometimes I get sucked into the mainstream stuff. I mostly like nothing that's mainstream, but now I'm thinking that it might be, you never know. I just know that certain things I like are hard to find because it's almost as if we're being forced to buy everything that they want us to buy. Or at least that's how I look at it. Then I hear about the story of Joe Simpson and Jon Krakauer. I can tell that things are certainly being misinterpreted. Companies think "hey just because people like this book they'll like all of these other books." It's amazing how certain things just work out that way!

Podcasts

For the maybe second or third time ever I dabbled into the world of podcasts. I have nothing against them it's just that I'm not all that interested in them. Most people I know use them for listening to their favorite comedians or things like NPR. I never really used them that much though .Podcasts can certainly be helpful though. I was listening to podcasting for dummies and there episode on podcasting for cheap. It's great that people are willing to help other people and for free at that! During my digital audio video electronics class I of course dabbled in the magical world of audio and was lucky enough to use high quality microphones to record sound. We even had our own studio.

Micro Art

I have a ipod touch 4th gen and love the photoshop express app I downloaded, it's really fun to play with. I'll probably be taking more pictures on there now! I think creating art with different electrical devises is cool. I like a lot of the digital art that I see. It's cool how awesome some of the art is that you see. It must have taken them many long hours to get to make such great art, especially in the beginning. I think it's great for people to explore all these new art forms. But what I don't like is when I see people whining saying "why can't you just learn to draw things on the computer?" People are losing touch with the real world. I like to feel the art, like the brush strokes or blending the led from the pencils with your fingers. People easily forget about the old things.

Creative Commons

Creative commons is such an interesting thing that I have never heard about. Even during my year in a tech class. We did a section on copyright I wonder if they new about this? It's great that some artists allow people to at least use their works under certain conditions. It's better than waiting for many years for the artist to die and even many years after that in order to do anything with their works. It's amazing that creative commons is a nonprofit organization these day if you want to do anything with anything It'll cost you. It's always interesting hearing about new things like this, well not that new since it came out in 2001. How could I have gone with these many years not knowing about it?
